The perception of colour is a sensory experience. The colour of an object is seen by the eye when white light is shone upon the object's surface. The surface reflects some colours and absorbs others. It is the reflected light (or wavelength) that is picked up by the eye. For example, a cherry is reflecting red light and absorbing other colours. Within the eye, the retina contains receptors called rods and cones. The cones react to colour wavelengths whilst the rods react to brightness. There are three types of cone: red, green and blue. Each colour has a different wavelength - blues, greens and violets have shorter wavelengths, while reds, oranges and yellows have longer wavelengths. When colour wavelengths fall on the retina, the brain interprets the signals as colour.
Colour Visualization: For protecting the heart this vizualisation exercise that is extremely valuable when we face difficult circumstances in our lives. It helps to remove fear, which is the cause of all other negative reactions, both from ourselves and from the people around us. Doing this exercise can also help to reduce anger, aggression, irritation and misunderstanding.
1. Right at the centre of your heart chakra, in the middle of your chest, imagine a spark of bright pink light
2. Keep your imagination on that spark of light strong and gradually see it radiating out through the body in a strong pink glow
3. The spark of pink energy is like a sun in your heart and its light completely fills your body and then continues to expand outwards in a pink halo of light surrounding everything around you.
4. As it touches others, the pink star at their own heart sparks into life, so that the pink energy gets stronger the more people around you it contacts.
5. At the end of the vizualisation allow your attention to return to the pink star at your heart as the surrounding colour fades gently away.
